Ginger up!

Ginger (jengibre) you may know. You may be the chef (cocinero) at home, and use organic (ecológico) ginger in soups (sopas) and juices. Some mortals make “ginger bread” and ginger tea.

So what is “ginger up”? Perhaps (quizás) want to ginger up a party (anima la fiesta): to make it more lively, or exciting. Or your speeches to conferences need to be “gingered up”. An example:

• Mr. Feijoo has decided (ha decidido) to ginger up his presentation to the United Nations.

Mortals can also be “gingered up”. So you could say to a friend who is looking sad (triste) or in a “low mood” (bajo estado de ánimo ) “ginger up”, please (anímate, por favor).

So you may buy and use ginger in your cooking and perhaps its spicy favor (sabor picante) will “ginger up” your guests!
